Research councils to help bankers at maths

Britain’s state-funded research councils are to work for the first time with the Bank of England and Financial Services Authority to improve mathematical modelling and reduce risk in the banking system.

The collaboration will be announced on Wednesday at the launch of a report by the Royal Society, Britain’s national academy of sciences, which urges the service sector – and financial services in particular – to make more use of research.
