Environmental issues: Industry to redress imbalance

Marion Blakey, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration, was the unwitting victim of a hoax when she warned US airlines to expect a consumer-led backlash over its environmental impact.

Ms Blakey, speaking at a recent industry conference, repeated the fake tale of Belgian regulators using helicopters to track the carbon footprint of illicit barbecues, blissfully unaware of the emissions created by their aerial snooping.
