Israeli settlement talks end in deadlock

George Mitchell, the US envoy to the Middle East, on Wednesday ended his second meeting in two days with the Israeli prime minister without reaching an agreement on a possible suspension of Jewish settlement activity.

The office of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli premier, issued a statement describing the talks as “good” and adding that the two men will continue their discussions at a previously unscheduled meeting on Friday after Mr Mitchell returns from visiting several other countries in the region.
