Environmental package unwrapped with dreams of a green Christmas

Temperatures may have been falling, but a white Christmas seems a remote prospect for most of the UK, so consumers are being urged to have a "green" festive season instead.

This will mean recycling wrapping paper and cards, seeking out environmentally friendly gifts, buying food with less packaging and composting Christmas trees. Farmers' markets are hoping for a bumper year as people look for organic, locally grown and eco-friendly food for Christmas dinners.
