For the past few years, when the economic sun was shining, France continued going to the beach, living off the government’s credit card.

Now the economic winds have shifted, and the country is embarking on deferred economic reforms against a cloudy backdrop. The vision of poor economic performance and tougher times ahead is almost universally shared.
