Cathay Pacific reports record $1bn loss

Cathay Pacific on Wednesday reported its biggest annual loss in its 63-year history as the Hong Kong-based carrier felt the impact of a sharp fall in demand for air travel and wrong-way bets on fuel costs.

The airline said 2009 would remain “extremely challenging” as the financial crisis curbed passenger and cargo traffic.
