Oxford commission for Turner prize artist

Its quadrangles and libraries are steeped in tradition, having played host to nine Nobel laureates, including the poet Seamus Heaney and the physicist Erwin Schrödinger.

But Magdalen College, Oxford, has decided to enter the contemporary cultural fray by commissioning one of Britain’s most controversial artists to make a sculpture for its 550th anniversary celebrations.
