Wealth tax on £1m-plus homes urged

Tens of thousands of homeowners with houses worth more than £1m should pay an annual tax of 1 per cent of the value of their property, the Liberal Democrats will argue today.

Vince Cable, the Lib Dem deputy leader and Treasury spokesman, will set out the case for a new wealth tax on what he calls the "super rich" at his party's spring conference in Harrogate.
