Iran extends $1bn credit to Baghdad

Iran has agreed to extend a $1bn credit facility to its neighbour Iraq, easily the biggest ever offered by the Islamic Republic.

Discussions over the scheme took place during the recent high-level visit led by Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Iraqi prime minister, to Iran. The facility will include loans to the Iraqi private sector through Iraqi banks.
