Sir, With reference to “Rothschild and Freshfields founders had links to slavery, papers reveal” (June 27): these reports are surely trite scholarship; the academic equivalent of shooting the birds while they are still on the ground. Many institutions of an appropriate age are likely, directly or indirectly, to have had links to slavery – for example banks and universities.
