Development: Revival at the grassroots is priority for game’s leaders

The one pair of goal-posts is rusted and twisted, the markings that used to separate pitches have long faded and refuse has spilled over from an encroaching squatter camp: the playing fields in the township of Sharpeville have seen better days.

Pitso Sefuthi, a former professional footballer, who is now part of efforts to revive grass roots football in an industrial area once considered a hotbed of the national game, laments the lack of facilities.
