US productivity gains help offset energy burden

US productivity accelerated in the first quarter of this year, according to revised government data published on Wednesday, a trend which could help companies offset the inflationary burden of rising energy costs.

First quarter non-farm productivity, a measure of business efficiency, increased at a 2.6 per cent annualised rate in the first three months of this year, revised from an originally reported 2.2. per cent.
