Company pension rules shake-up mooted

Plans to make it easier for companies to restructure without triggering huge payments into the pension schemes of businesses that are closed down were proposed by the government on Thursday.

Under current rules, when companies restructure, even within the same group, the acquiring employer may have to fund fully the pensions of anyone whose scheme is no longer supported by their original employer.
