Boeing: Manufacturing enters a new era

There are no “Sale” signs screaming at customers in the Boeing shop below the aerospace group’s Chicago headquarters, with its neat piles of 787 replicas and T-shirts moving briskly off the shelves.

Jim McNerney, Boeing’s chairman and chief executive, might wish for similar market conditions as the company works through delivering a record order book of more than $230bn, buoyed by the renaissance of its commercial aircraft unit.
