Iran has hanged a Kurdish activist on charges of armed struggle against the Islamic regime, in a rare application of the death penalty against a political prisoner.

Ehsan Fattahian, 27, was arrested earlier this year and sentenced to 10 years in prison. But an appellate court increased that sentence to death.
