Italian crime crackdown reflects terror fears

Over 140 people were arrested in and around Milan over the weekend as the Italian authorities stepped up both their vigilance and reviews of their counter-terrorism systems.

The majority of those detained, a government official said on Sunday, were illegal immigrants and many were charged with theft or possession of drugs. The official played down suggestions that any of those arrested were linked specifically to terrorism.
