Chinese students deterred by lack of work schemes

Chinese students are being put off increasingly expensive degrees at British universities because of the difficulties they face in being able to work for short periods in this country, a Chinese official has warned.

Wang Yongda, minister counsellor for education at the Chinese embassy in London, said Chinese students are as attracted by the opportunity to gain work experience at British companies as the prospect of gaining a degree.
