Mandelson softens mail strike tone

Peter Mandelson appeared to adopt a more conciliatory tone on the postal strike on Friday, as the government sought to present a united front.

The business secretary urged “both sides to try again, to iron out their differences [and] bridge this divide”, stressing he had spent Thursday evening making phone calls to try to resolve the dispute.
