Harare power-sharing comes under fire

Zimbabwe’s power-sharing government is a recipe for “disaster” and sets a dangerous precedent for democracy in Africa, Ian Khama, the president of neighbouring Botswana, has warned.

Mr Khama’s criticism of Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s authoritarian president – a rare exception to many African leaders’ willingness to tolerate autocrats in their midst – has been a crucial prop to Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, who last month became prime minister after a decade of opposing the regime.
