Sterling haunted by euro parity

The pound dropped to a record low against the euro this week, threatening to hit parity against the single currency as UK economic data continued to deteriorate.

This heightened expectations that the Bank of England would cut interest rates, which stand at 2 per cent, at its policy meeting next week.
