Stem cell experiment on rats offers hope for human stroke victims

Stem cells from an aborted foetus could be used to replace damaged brain tissue in stroke victims following a breakthrough by scientists from ReNeuron, a private biotechnology company.

ReNeuron is preparing to seek permission to undertake human trials of the replacement brain cells after encouraging tests on rats showed they significantly improved the sensory motor abilities following a stroke.
