British Airways said Friday it expects the consortium it has formed with a US private equity group to make a bid for Iberia, the Spanish airline, within the next four to six weeks.

Willie Walsh, BA’s chief executive, said he expected to move on Europe’s fourth biggest airline, along with TPG and three Spanish partners, next month. He said he had become “more encouraged about the possibilities for deeper co-operation with Iberia”.
