Olmert begins court battle

Ehud Olmert, the former Israeli prime minister, on Friday began his court battle against the corruption allegations that forced him to stand down last year.

Mr Olmert’s indictment last month marked the first time an Israeli premier has faced criminal charges. The allegations against him include fraud, breach of trust, falsifying corporate documents and failure to report income.
