Smith & Nephew, the medical devices company, on Thursday recalled 185 hip implants following a packaging error by a subcontractor.

The company said a small number of production batches of its successful Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System were incorrectly packaged and as a result different sizes of hip implant had been mixed.
