Hot money leaves homebuilders' foundations volatile in spite of share surge

Friday the 13th saw what looked like a rare piece of good news for housebuilders - in a week that had the last of them set to be ejected from the FTSE 100.

Shares in the sector closed up 10 per cent yesterday, their second biggest jump in more than a year, ending a torrid week that recorded the two biggest falls in the sector since the start of 2007.
