World View: Nomura’s traditional ties

Nomura is striving to shed its provincial ways and become a world-class investment bank, but when it comes to communicating with the world, it is having trouble breaking with the past.

In line with Japanese tradition, the broker held its first-half results announcement in a cramped room at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dominated by members of the “kisha club”, or mainstream journalists.
