Denmark’s AP Møller-Maersk has taken a major step towards securing the future of its loss-making shipyard business after it announced the leasing of much of its main Lindø site to Denmark’s largest ship-repair yard.

The privately held Fredericia Shipyard will move half its activities to the main Lindø yard of Maersk’s Odense Steel Shipyard, on the island of Funen, at the start of 2011. The remainder will move a year later. The yard’s current base at Fredericia, on the east coast of Jutland, employs 450 people, whom the company will ask to move to Lindø.
