Critics round on UK export rule change

Efforts to stop British companies bribing foreign public officials and damaging the environment overseas will be hit by a planned law aimed at boosting exports during the credit crunch, leading campaign groups claimed on Monday.

Non-governmental activists, ranging from WWF, the conservation body, to Transparency International, the international anti-corruption organisation, have attacked a proposal before parliament on Tuesday to allow the government to give retrospective financial backing to export deals.
