Inflation is fast becoming a pressing concern of policymakers worldwide.

In the developed countries, central banks are sharply divided about whether the recovery is strong enough to permit interest rates to rise to clamp down on inflationary pressures.

The high-growth emerging economies have been hit by rising commodity prices and some have tightened monetary policy; others have been reluctant, fearing currency appreciation could derail export-led growth.

This graphic explores the current state of inflation across the G20, as well as exploring the historic inflation levels, ranging from a decade of deflation in Japan to periods of hyperinflation in Argentina and Brazil.
