Patient income flat as waiting times fall

National Health Service trusts saw no real growth in their income from private patients last year as the longest waits for NHS treatment began to disappear, Laing and Buisson, the analyst, reported yesterday.

As a result, fewer patients were prepared to pay for care directly out of their own pocket, with the total income trusts received from private patients in 2003-04 rising a mere £11m to £397m.
