Margrethe Auken, the vivacious face of far-left politics in Denmark, is the most prominent, and surprising, convert from Euroscepticism to enthusiasm about engagement with the European Union. Her leftwing Socialist party may well pick up a seat in the European parliament as a result, provided the turnout is not too low.
“Originally I was a No,” she says. “Then I realised if we don’t get any say in Europe, we will not get anywhere. It is where we can have a left-green agenda, and it makes sense.”
