Academic Gerke starts hedge fund

Wolfgang Gerke, one of Germany’s best-known financial market pundits, is leaving the sidelines and taking to the pitch.

Professor Gerke, 61 and due to retire next summer as chair of the banking and stock exchanges faculty at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, will join a growing clique of academics seeking to put their theoretical understanding of the markets to practical effect by launching a hedge fund.
