Private schools see rise in pupils

Most private schools have stable or rising pupil numbers in spite of the credit crunch, a survey of staff by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers suggests.

Almost half of teaching staff surveyed said the number of pupils at their school was higher at the beginning of the school year than in September 2007, and a further 26 per cent said numbers were the same. Only 22 per cent reported fewer pupils.
