Sir Salman Rushdie yesterday won the Best of the Booker prize marking the 40th anniversary of the prestigious literary award.

The Indian-born author's novel Midnight's Children was voted the best of the Booker Prize winners in an online poll. The 1981 book is considered by many to be Sir Salman's finest work, though he is better known for The Satanic Verses , which outraged many Muslims and prompted death threats.
