Standard Life beats forecasts despite investment losses

Standard Life, the pensions and life assurance group, reported better-than-expected results, although it also revealed sizeable losses on investments over the year and expressed caution about prospects for financial markets in the near term.

Investors welcomed the results on Thursday, pushing the shares up 11.5p to 172.8p.
