Long-dated property derivatives traded

The first long-dated derivatives on US residential property were traded this week, marking another step towards the development of a potentially huge newsector of the US financial markets.

The multimillion-dollar deals were the first to have maturities as long as five years and the first in the privately negotiated, or over-the-counter, markets. Shorter-term housing index instruments started trading last year on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
