Starbucks tastes Australian defeat with 61 store closures

Starbucks admitted defeat in the race to win a large slice of the Australian coffee market yesterday when the US chain said it would close 61 "underperforming" stores out of its total Australia portfolio of 84.

The decision by Starbucks to downsize its Australian business is a setback for the Seattle-based chain's international ambitions.
