Rio boosts spending on exploration

Rio Tinto on Wednesday said it had spent $401m on exploration and evaluation work in the first half of the year, more than double the amount spent in the same period last year.

“We are well positioned and continuing to invest in expansion”, said Tom Albanese, chief executive. “Mining continues to prosper for the very good reason that prices are not being propped up speculators.”
