Wen hits back in renminbi policy dispute

Wen Jiabao, China's premier, mounted a vigorous defence of his country's exchange rate policy yesterday, in Beijing's highest-level reply to criticism from the Obama administration.

Speaking in Berlin after talks with Angela Merkel, Germany's chancellor, he insisted that Beijing's policy for the renminbi was "orientated towards market needs" and "flexible".
