Police crime map initiative goes nationwide

Crime maps providing the public with access to data on local crime have been rolled out across all 43 police forces in England and Wales, meeting a new year deadline set by the Home Office last summer.

The interactive coloured maps, showing numbers and rates of certain categories of crime committed in every neighbourhood, are part of the government’s policy of giving residents a greater say in setting local crime-fighting priorities, identifying potential “hot spots” and improving police accountability.
