Sponsorship fee for academies scrapped

Ministers have waived the £2m ($3.26m) sponsorship fee required to control an academy school, but business leaders warned the move would fail to boost the number of private companies bidding to be sponsors.

Instead of providing financial support, sponsors must show the “skills and leadership” required to run an academy.
