The Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Thursday called for hundreds of thousands of Iraqis to join in protests against the US occupation next week.

Mr Sadr’s call to action comes less than a week after bloody clashes between his Mahdi army militia and Iraqi government forces ended in Baghdad and Basra.
