Brown denies he knew of bugging claims

Gordon Brown insisted on Sunday night he had been unaware of accusations that a Muslim Labour MP was bugged by anti-terrorism officers at Scotland Yard while visiting a constituent in prison.

Jack Straw, justice secretary, has ordered an internal inquiry into allegations that the police illegally listened to conversations between Sadiq Khan, a government whip, and Babar Ahmad, his childhood friend.
