Concern grows over brain drain threat to US public sector

The US federal government faces a talent drain in the coming years as many senior officials reach retirement age and fewer bright young people opt for careers in public service.

About 90 per cent of senior managers in federal government are eligible to retire in 10 years and more than 40 per cent of all federal employees will be eligible for retirement by 2010, according to the Council for Excellence in Government, a non-partisan research group.
