The unfinished motorway flyover that for decades pointed aimlessly across Glasgow’s South Side near the south end of the city’s Kingston Bridge is finally being put to use. Construction equipment and vehicles are stored on the unused roadway for the work under way nearby to push the M74 motorway through the reviving Gorbals area.
The idle motorway bridge – which points towards the slightly different route of the road as originally envisaged – has long symbolised the protracted debate over whether the scheme was worthwhile.
