AIG near to key $2bn disposal

AIG is in advanced talks to sell its US personal lines insurance business to Zurich Financial Services for about $2bn, a move that would mark the largest disposal by the US insurer since being rescued last year.

Selling the unit, which includes car, motorcycle, and commercial vehicle insurance, to the Swiss group would help AIG repay $100bn in federal aid and maintain a chance of a future outside government control.
