Women managers outpace men on pay scale

Women managers have scored a breakthrough on pay, with heads of department earning more than their male counterparts for the first time, according to a survey released yesterday.

Women department heads earned an average of £51,854 a year compared with £50,459 for men, according to the poll of almost 22,000 managers in 354 companies.
