Condoleezza Rice begins her first tour of Asia as US secretary of state on Wednesday, meeting Manmohan Singh, India's prime minister, ahead of talks with other Asian leaders.

Ms Rice will visit India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, South Korea, Japan and China, which together represent around two-fifths of humanity, some of the world's fastest growing economies, and potential nuclear flashpoints.
