Smuggled tobacco makes smoking more dangerous

Smoking could be even worse for your health if you buy smuggled cigarettes from street-corner dealers, the government said yesterday. More than half the cigarettes seized in raids were counterfeit and often contained extremely dangerous levels of toxin, said John Healey, economic secretary to the Treasury.

"If you are one of the smokers tempted to buy cheap cigarettes then you don't know what you are buying," he said.
