Hiring of staff hits lowest level for 11 years

Job appointments and vacancies last month plunged to their lowest level for more than 11 years, according to a poll of recruitment companies published on Wednesday.

The poll, by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG, consultants, reported that appointments of permanent and temporary staff fell at the fastest rate since the survey began in 1997.
